I am in my 27th year in education, most of which I have spent as an administrator focused on curriculum and instruction. I have seen enough benefit in my personal like from applying strategies for developing self-awareness and self-regulating that I feel duty-bound to bring these aspects of mindfulness practice into the classroom. So many young people today are trapped in a “fight or flight” state because the world comes at them hard from all sides all day long. Starting as early as possible, kids need to be taught the skills to stimulate the wellness center of their brains so that they can quiet the constant flow of stress and anxiety emanating from an over-active amygdala.
