I am the BEST (Behavior Education Support Team) Special Education teacher and program designer for CCSD62 in Des Plaines since 2003. I designed the BEST program and named it at Chippewa Middle School. In 2015 I modified the program to include a K-2 and 3-5 BEST program at Cumberland Elementary School for CCSD62. In 2017 Algonquin Middle School adopted my program in CCSD62 as well. In 2019 I spoke at the Raising Student Achievement Conference put on by the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents. I was awarded the Lorraine H. Morton Impact Award by the Mental Health America of Northern Suburbs in 2019 subsequently I was honored at a 2019 CCSD62 board meeting for the development of the BEST programs. I am currently an active board member of MHA-NS. I am also a member of the Youth Advisory board to reduce the stigma of mental health for teens in the northern suburbs associated with MHA-NS. I was trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy in 2019 that includes mindfulness meditation. I have been installing mindfulness theories and meditation practices into my program/class morning routines. I am continuing to learn about mindfullness and have been amazed at the impact and growth I have seen in my students since I started this school year. I look forward to learning more and spreading my knowledge though out the education profession. I am a believer.
