Wendy DeGraffenried, school nurse at Wasilla Middle in south central Alaska, is Nationally Certified and serves on the board and practice committees for both the Alaska School Nurses Association and the American Holistic Nurses Association. Wendy is the Trauma Informed School Team leader, and has demonstrated her abilities through major accomplishments over the last three years. For example, Wendy has created and leads Brain Train, a Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness after school program for students focused on developing social emotional skills and resilience building.
In addition, Wendy teaches professional development classes for teachers and administrators and gives presentations on mindfulness and trauma sensitive schools practices, all while practicing as a private and corporate Holistic Health and Mindfulness Consultant. The care Wendy shows students who visit her office for health care needs is a clear combination of sensitivity and empathy that empowers both students and staff. It is for this reason that she reaches into the community to share her experience, knowledge, and strategies to impact a larger population of educators, leaders, and caregivers.
And most recently, Wendy was awarded the School Nurse of the Year Award for the state of Alaska. And yet Wendy will humbly tell you, her claim to fame is really her worldwide top 10 ranking with The Cloud Appreciation Society.
