DAY 1:  FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28; SESSIONS 8:30-2:30, RESOURCE FAIR 2:30-4:30, DINNER EVENT 6-9

Day 1 of EMCON2020 aligns with a Teacher Institute Day in Kane and DuPage County. It is an experiential day of learning and self-care, with sessions led by experts in mindful education as well as a wide variety of educators who have been integrating mindfulness at their schools in a plethora of ways. We've designed the day (and conference) so that wherever you are in your process of learning about mindfulness, and whatever grades you teach or role you have at your school, you'll have a meaningful learning experience.

"I left this conference feeling energized and inspired to incorporate mindfulness into my life and school buildings;

I was amazed by the number of resources I was able to bring back to my schools. Highly recommend attending!!"

Our 2019-20 COSEM president, Tovi Scruggs-Hussein, will give our opening talk on A Mindful Approach to Healing Education-Based Trauma and then we have five breakout sessions, some 50 minutes in length and some 100 minutes.

Mindful Schools' Mindful Room will be open all day; this is an amazing exhibit showcasing ideas for creating a mindfulness room or space in your school or classroom. Mindful Schools will present on different mindfulness room-related topics each session.

Lunch is included and will take place at the same time as two of the breakout sessions; you can choose which lunch session you'd like to attend based on which breakout sessions you are most excited to attend.

A Resource Fair will take place from 2:30-4:30 pm with approximately 20 mindfulness resource providers participating, many raffling off books, trainings, and programs (winners announced at 3:30l you must be present to win). We invite participants to stay after the conference to visit Resource Fair tables and network with each other and the session presenters. Contact Tracy at hello@educatingmindfully.org to reserve a Resource Fair table.

Please also join us on Friday evening for our School Mindfulness Champion dinner starting at 6pm. After dinner, we'll have an action-inspiring program. Parents and other school community members are invited!

School Mindfulness Champion Dinner

We hope you will join us Friday, February 28 for a special evening that includes intimate conversations with leaders in the field.

After Friday's conference is when mentorship and connection deepen. We are honored to have Barnaby Spring, Director of Mindfulness in Education, New York City Department of Education, James Butler, SEL Mindfulness Specialist, Austin ISD, and Douglas Stalnos, SEL Specialist, Chicago Public Schools join us for it.

The evening begins with networking, then after dinner, these leaders in the field will join COSEM president Tovi Scruggs-Hussein, conversing on topics ranging from the importance of student voice in advancing mindfulness in schools...to facilitating mindfulness with a culturally-responsive and trauma-informed lens...to the fundamental questions we need to be asking and innovative strategies we need to be applying to foster mindful social change. We invite audience participation in this intimate conversation and will be recording it for our Mindful Learning Center.

Purchase tickets HERE or when you register for the conference. Ticket price is $50.

DAY 2: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29;  8:30-4:00

  • Cheryl Watkins, Ph.D., Network 13 Chief of Schools, Chicago Public Schools

  • Barnaby Spring, Director of Mindfulness in Education, NYC Department of Education

  • James Butler, SEL Mindfulness Specialist, Austin ISD, Founder, Mindful Classrooms
